 Remediation Of Willets Point

One of the continuing problems in Willets Point is contamination of the soil and groundwater from the long term use from auto parts and salvage operations.

The EDC Plan

The EDC, in its redevelopment plan, is proposing to simply cap the existing site with 4 feet of fill, leaving all of the contamination in place.  There are no plans to actually remediate the problem of contamination in Willets Point.  This only masks the problem and leaves potential hazardous conditions for the new housing proposed by the EDC.

Property Owners In Action

The Property Owners of Willets have taken on the task of cleaning up their own property by digging up a removing the problems when they are identified.  Many open spills have been cleaned up in recent years and  converted from an eyesore to productive property.
